Alaska

Ballot Measure 8 was passed by Alaska voters on November 3, 1998. It allows qualified patients under a physician's care to obtain a legal medical marijuana recommendation and register for a Medical Marijuana Identification Card. Arizona

Proposition 203 was passed by Arizona voters on November 4, 2010. It allows qualified patients under a physician's care to obtain a legal medical marijuana recommendation and register for a Medical Marijuana Identification Card. California

Since its inception into law in 1996, Proposition 215 guarantees that patients under advisement from a physician, can have legal and safe access to consume medical marijuana to reduce or eliminate symptoms of their disease or medical condition.

Subsequently in 2003, Senate Bill 420 (SB420) was passed by the California legislature to expand the rights of patients and to provide further protections to physicians and marijuana dispensaries. It stipulates the specific quantities of plants and product allowed per patient without being subject to arrest. Once you have had a proper evaluation by a board certified physician and they have prescribed medical cannabis to treat your condition you can legally possess, cultivate, and consume marijuana to treat the specific medical condition you suffer from.

Colorado

Amendment 20 was passed by Colorado voters on November 4, 2000. It allows qualified patients under a physician's care to obtain a legal medical marijuana recommendation and register for a Medical Marijuana Identification Card.

The Colorado medical marijuana registry is regulated and administered by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). In order to obtain your Medical Marijuana Registry Identification Card, you must send the following information to the CDPHE:

  • Signed and dated Application for Identification Card
  • Physician's Certification
  • Photo ID
  • A non-refundable $90 Application Fee

Hawaii

Senate Bill 862 was signed by Governor Ben Cayetano on June 14, 2000. The Hawaii Medical Marijuana Act allows qualified patients under a physician's care to obtain a legal medical marijuana recommendation and register for a Medical Marijuana Identification Card. Maine

Question 2 was passed by Maine voters on November 2, 1999. Michigan

The Michigan Medical Marihuana Act was passed by Michigan voters on November 4, 2008. It allows qualified patients under a physician's care to obtain a legal medical marijuana prescription. Michigan medical marijuana law is regulated and administered by the Michigan Medical Marihuana Program (MMMP). The laws are very specific regarding who can prescribe and who can receive legal medical marijuana.

New Mexico

The New Mexico Medical Cannabis Program allows for the use and distribution of medical marijuana to state-authorized patients. It began in 2007 when Governor Bill Richardson signed Senate Bill 523, "Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act". In January 2009, the New Mexico state Department of Health finalized the rules governing the use, production and distribution of medical cannabis. The laws are very specific regarding who can prescribe and who can use legal medical marijuana.

Oregon

Measure 67 was passed by Oregon voters on November 3, 1988. The Edward O. Hawkins and Thomas C. Slater Medical Marijuana Act was passed by the state of Rhode Island voters on January 3 2006. It allows qualified patients under a physician's care to obtain a legal medical marijuana recommendation and register for a Medical Marijuana Identification Card. The Vermont General Assembly passed Senate Bill 7 in 2007. It ammends 18 V.S.A.
